Himachal Pradesh makes Covid e-pass mandatory after tourists storm

After thousands of tourists gathered in flocks in Himachal Pradesh, the state government on Tuesday issued a travel advisory for tourists and made Covid e-pass mandatory. This comes after some pictures of thousand of vehicles causing massive traffic jams in several areas over the weekend went viral on the internet.

After some relief on covid front, the state government relaxed some guidelines, leading to many people entering the state without an e-pass as well as negative RT PCR test.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday said even as the government has removed the condition of RT-PCR negative report entering the state, everyone must follow Covid-19 guidelines. He added that nobody in the state will be allowed to flout the norms.

The chief minister stated that people entering in the state would be monitored through registration on the Covid e-pass software. The applicants have to enter their particulars in the online system and that details of their arrival were being shared with all the stakeholders concerned, he added.

The Himachal Pradesh government had lifted Section 144 in the state while releasing the new guidelines and said that negative RT-PCR tests will no longer be required in the state to cross borders.

Himachal Pradesh reported 326 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, while seven people due to the virus. The state’s overall tally of Covid infections stands at 198,876, while the death toll has crossed 3382.
