The Lakhimpur Kheri Violence case will be heard again in the Supreme Court today. On Thursday, the court had sought a status report from the UP government in this matter. During the hearing, the court had asked the UP government that how many arrests have been made in the case so far? How many accused are there in the case? The court had said that with all these information, the report should be filed on Friday.
The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance in the matter on the letter of two lawyers. When the hearing of the case began on Thursday, advocate Shivkumar Tripathi, who wrote the letter, said in the court, "Many farmers have been killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. This has happened due to the negligence of the administration. The court should take appropriate action in this matter. I hope that the court will take our letter seriously and action will be taken against the guilty. This is a case of human rights violation."

The matter is being heard by a three-judge bench including CJI NV Ramana. Apart from the CJI, Justice Suryakant and Justice Hima Kohli are also included in the bench. The title of this case is 'Loss of life due to violence in Lakhimpur Kheri'. On this, the Chief Justice has sought an answer from the UP government.
The UP government told the court that this incident is unfortunate. SIT has been formed to investigate the matter. FIR has been registered. We can file a report. Garima Prasad said on behalf of UP, 'We have registered an FIR. An investigation team has been formed under the leadership of a retired judge of the High Court. On this, the CJI said that 'tomorrow, after talking to the state government in this matter, bring instructions and file their details and status report on how many petitions have been filed in the High Court regarding this matter. How many FIRs, how many arrested, how many accused tell everything.'
As soon as the hearing began, the Supreme Court asked the registry to register the matter as a public interest litigation. The Chief Justice said that 'we have registered this matter on the letter of advocate Shivkumar Tripathi and CS Panda. We had asked to file it as a PIL but due to some confusion it got registered as a suo motu cognizance. The court has asked both the lawyers to appear.'
Significantly, eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday (October 03). Thousands of farmers had gathered in Lakhimpur Kheri district of UP to protest against Union Minister Ajay Mishra and State Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Farmers have alleged that Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra rammed his SUV on farmers protesting peacefully, leading to the death of four farmers. In this case, the farmers have also lodged an FIR. Many videos of the incident are also going viral on social media. On the other hand, the Union Minister has confessed to having his own car in the incident but denied that the son was present there.
