IMD predicts heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat on Dec 1 & 2

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat on December 1 and 2. The IMD has issued an orange alert for December 1 and a yellow notice for December 2 in Gujarat’s Anand, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar districts.

Rainfall is expected to begin on November 30 as a result of an active Western Disturbance (WD) and will strike northwest and adjacent central India beginning on November 30.

A alert for fishermen has been issued for the north and south Gujarat coasts from November 30 to December 2. Due to the unseasonal rain, farmers have been advised to take adequate safeguards for their harvest and standing crops.

On November 30, moderate rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and surface wind of 40-60 kmph is expected in all the districts of South Gujarat as well as Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu.

The IMD said very heavy rain is expected on December 1 in Anand, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad Surat, Dangs and Tapi, in Saurashtra districts, including Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Botad and Bhavnagar, along with Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur.

On December 2, the districts of Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dangs and Tapi are expected to receive heavy rainfall. A warning has been issued for fishermen along the north Gujarat coast, including Jakhau, Mandvi (Kutch), Mundra, New Kandla, Navlakhi, Jamnagar, Salaya, Okha and Porbandar.

Squally weather with a wind speed of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off the north Gujarat coast and over the adjoining northeast Arabian Sea from November 30 to December 2.
