In Malegaon 2008 blast case, 34th witness declared hostile by NIA court

In the 2008 blast case in Malegaon, Maharashtra, all the witnesses are turning hostile one after the other. In this connection, another witness has turned hostile from his initial statement. This is the 34th witness in the case who turned hostile from his statement given to the police. This witness knew Colonel Purohit, who is an ex-serviceman.

Earlier, the 33rd witness had voluntarily refused to give any statement to the police/ATS. The witness said in the court that the statement was recorded at gunpoint. The witness retracted from the statement he had given to the Maharashtra ATS.

At the same time, the investigating agency NIA did not record its statement. The testimony of 20 witnesses is still pending in this case. The next hearing in the case will be on April 6.

Earlier, the Bombay High Court had rejected the petition of the main accused, Lt. Col. Prasad Shrikant Purohit. Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit had demanded to absolve himself of the charges. On Purohit’s petition, the Bombay High Court said that what you did was not an official duty. In that incident, 6 people lost their lives and more than 100 people were seriously injured.

High Court reprimanded

It was argued in the petition on behalf of accused Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit that he was only performing his official duty and was collecting information about ‘Abhinav Bharat’. To this, the High Court said, “then the question remains to be answered as to why he did not avoid the bomb blast in the residential area of Malegaon which caused damage. In this, 6 innocent people lost their lives and around 100 people got serious injuries.”
