Independence Day: At Red Fort, India’s most successful Olympic Contingent will mark presence

India’s most successful Olympics contingent will mark their presence at Red Fort today. Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited the entire team at Red Fort for the Independence Day celebration.

President Ram Nath Kovind had yesterday hosted Olympic contingent for ‘high tea’ at Rastrapati Bhavan.

The entire country is proud of our Olympians for bringing glory to the nation,” President Kovind said at the event.

The India registered it’s best ever Olympics by winning 7 medals- a gold, two silvers, and four bronzes at the Games. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was the sole gold medal winner at the quadrennial event for India.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu kicked off the medal procedding for India on Day 1 of the Tokyo Games, claiming a silver then boxer Lovlina Borhogain, PV Sindhu and after 41 years India men’s hockey team scripted history by claiming a medal at the Games. In wrestling Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dhaiya won bronze and silver medals respectively.
