India, China to hold 15th round of Corps Commander talks on March 11

India and China have mutually decided to hold the 15th round of the corps commander-level talks on Friday on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control at the Chushul Moldo meeting point to resolve all the remaining friction points between the two armies in Ladakh.

Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, who took over as the commander of XIV Corps responsible for the LAC in Ladakh, will lead the delegation. Lt Gen Sengupta had taken over as the Corps Commander just days ahead of the 14th round of talks, but had been part of discussions since the previous round in October too.

The talks are being held amid concerns over the Ukraine-Russia conflict and its fallout in the region. India and China are in a standoff in Ladakh now for around two years, which started in April-May 2020.

The latest round of talks is expected to focus on hammering out an agreement for disengagement of rival frontline soldiers from Hot Springs or Patrol Point-15, one of the friction points on LAC.

The Indian Army’s patrolling activity has been affected in Hot Springs and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s forward presence in Depsang Plains has also hindered access of Indian soldiers to routes, including the ones leading to PP-10, 11, 11-A, 12 and 13.

It is good that both sides are continuing to discuss the disengagement process, said former Northern Army commander Lieutenant General DS Hooda (retired).
