The tension between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh is likely to decrease. The armies of both the countries have started retreating from Gogra-Hot Springs on the LAC. In a joint statement on Thursday evening from both the countries, the forces have started retreating as per the agreement reached in the 16th round of military talks.
The 16th round of Corps Commander level talks between the armies of the two countries was held on 17 July. It was earlier that the armies of both the countries met each other in March for talks. In a joint statement issued on Thursday, it was said that under the mutual agreement reached in the 16th round of the India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting, on September 8, 2022, the Indian and Chinese armies launched a coordinated and planned strike from the Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15) area. This will help in creating peace and stability in the border areas.
According to sources, the Chinese army has agreed to return to its position in this area, where it was present before the clash between the armies of the two countries in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. In this clash, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred, while more than 40 Chinese soldiers were also injured or killed.
However, both the armies have returned to the old position in this area in the talks being done to reduce the tension. Apart from this, armies have retreated on both sides of Pangong Lake in the southern region of Ladakh. Despite this, it is believed that China is still occupying a large area inside the Indian border in the Depsang plains in northern Ladakh.
