India Independence Day 2022: Prime Minister pays tribute to Pingali Venkaiah, the person who designed the National Flag

India Independence Day 2022: On Tuesday, on 146th birth anniversary of Pingali Venkaiah Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to freedom fighter and national flag designer. The PM has tweeted and said that our country will always be indebted to him for his efforts to give the tricolor, which we are very proud of.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that taking strength and inspiration from the tricolor, let us keep working for the progress of the nation. The PM has put the tricolor on the picture of his social media profile in honor of Pingali Venkaiah and urged the countrymen to do the same. Pingali Venkaiah was born on 2 August 1876 in Machilipatnam city of Andhra Pradesh.

Tiranga Utsav Organised by Ministry of Culture

At the same time, the Ministry of Culture organized the Tiranga Utsav program in Delhi, in which a special commemorative postage stamp has been issued in the memory of Pingali Venkayya. The family of Pingali Venkaiah was also present in this program were Pingali Venkaiah was honored by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

National flag of India

Pingali Venkaiah was sent to South Africa to fight the war as a soldier of the British Indian Army in his youth. During the war, he saw that his flag, the Union Jack, played a major role in instilling a sense of nationalism in the British soldiers. He was so impressed by this that he conceived the national flag of India.

The designs of more than 30 flags were studied

Pingali Venkaiah wanted to make a flag for the country which would reflect the country’s history and become a symbol of its soul, for this he studied the design of national flags of more than 30 countries from the year 1916 to 1921.
