India is no longer a country that can be ignored: Home Minister

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today addressed the three-day DGP-IGP conference at National Agricultural Science Complex, Pusa Campus.

During this, he said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, India is no longer a country which can be ignored and left behind. India is definitely safe, strong and in good shape now under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the end, he also distributed police medals for meritorious service and trophies to the top three police stations of the country.

Discussed these issues

On the first day of the conference, discussions were held on security challenges along the land borders with Nepal and Myanmar, strategy to identify foreigners in India and targeting Maoist strongholds.

Where has the event been held so far

Until 2013, the annual meeting was held in New Delhi. When the Narendra Modi government came to power the next year, it was decided to hold the event organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Intelligence Bureau outside the national capital. Subsequently it was conducted virtually in Guwahati in 2014, Rann of Kutch in 2015, National Police Academy in Hyderabad in 2016, BSF Academy in Tekanpur in 2017, Pune in 2019 and in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. It was organized in hybrid mode in Lucknow in 2021. This time the conference is being held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Pusa, Delhi, unlike the previous venue Vigyan Bhawan.

Prior to 2014, discussions largely focused only on national security matters. The official said that since 2014, these conferences have dual focus on national security as well as core policing issues like crime prevention and detection, community policing, law and order, improving the image of police.
