India logs 2,288 new COVID cases, 40 deaths

India has witnessed a drop in Covid-19 cases. After daily cases spiraled above 3,000 mark in the tally of daily COVID-19 cases for a few days, the country on Tuesday reported 2,288 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With the latest addition, India’s tally of daily COVID-19 cases rose to 4,31,07, 689. Active cases in the country also saw a drop and currently stand at 19,637, the Ministry added.  Forty deaths in the same time span took the total fatalities registered since the start of the pandemic to 5,24,064.

The total vaccination figure rose to 1,90,20,07,487, of which 17,39,403 vaccines were administered a day ago. The number of Covid-19 tests done on the previous day was reported at 3,60,613, the data further showed.

A total of 4,84,843 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, raising the cumulative tests in the country to over 84.15 crore (84,15,14,701).

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 190.50 crore (1,90,50,86,706) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. “This has been achieved through 2,37,09,334 sessions,” the Ministry said. 

Over three crore children in the age group of 12-14 years have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, said Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday.

The vaccination for children between the 12-14 age group started on March 16 with Biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, which is administered to the beneficiaries in an interval of 28 days. “Children are making a significant contribution to the vaccination campaign! Over 3 crore youngsters between 12-14 age group have received 1st dose of COVID19 vaccine. Congratulations to all my young friends who got vaccinated,” Mandaviya said in a tweet.
