India Maldives Row: The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which is the principal opposition party in the Maldives, has gathered enough signatures to start the process of impeaching the Mohamed Muizzu administration through a resolution of no confidence. It is expected that the parliament would receive the impeachment motion against the pro-China president shortly.

Clash Over Cabinet Approval

This event occurs one day after MPs clashed, causing mayhem in the Maldivian Parliament on Sunday during a special session called to approve Muizzu's cabinet members. There was conflict between MDP MPs and members of the ruling alliance, which is made up of the People's National Congress (PNC) and the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).

Violent Confrontation Unfolds

A social media sensational video depicts lawmakers assembling close to the speaker's chair and getting into a fistfight. Abdulla Hakeem Shaheem, the MP for Kanditheemu, and Ahmed Easa, the MP for Kendhikulhudhoo, got into a fight, and Shaheem got hit in the head when they fell close to the chamber.

The MDP's decision to withhold legislative approval for four members of Muizzu's cabinet before to the vote caused the violence in Parliament. Then MPs supporting the administration started a protest, which descended into mayhem.

Political Turmoil Deepens

No-confidence resolutions against Speaker Mohamed Aslam and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Saleem of the Parliament have been submitted by the ruling PPM-PNC coalition, according to a report on the Sun.mv news website. According to the ruling coalition, preventing the cabinet from receiving legislative approval would be the same as preventing the government from providing its citizens with services.
