In a major political and military development, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed opposition leaders on Thursday afternoon, revealing that over 100 terrorists were killed during Operation Sindoor—India’s powerful military response to the Pahalgam terror attack and ongoing threats from across the border.
Operation Sindoor: A Continuing Mission
During the all-party meeting, the Defence Minister clarified that Operation Sindoor is still ongoing, signalling that Indian forces remain on high alert and are prepared for any further escalation from Pakistan. While reiterating that India does not seek further confrontation, Singh said the country reserves the right to respond decisively if provoked.
“There are no plans to escalate… but if the enemy attacks, we will strike back harder,” the Defence Minister reportedly said.
Opposition Rallies Behind Government
The opposition parties extended unified support to the government, affirming a bipartisan stance against cross-border terrorism. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters, “We heard what the government had to say. Some information was confidential, and that’s understandable. We told them we are all with the government.”
The all-party meeting was noted for its cordial atmosphere, with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju commending all participants for "maturity and national unity", emphasizing that no political bickering occurred during the discussion.
Pakistan's Possible Response Looms
While Pakistan has not officially confirmed any military action, there are unverified reports suggesting a possible retaliatory move is being considered in response to Operation Sindoor’s scale and effectiveness.
India's swift and coordinated military operation targeted terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reportedly dismantling infrastructure belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen.
National Security Takes Centre Stage
Operation Sindoor has become a defining moment in India's counter-terror policy—marking one of the largest and most coordinated strikes in recent history. With both government and opposition aligned, the message from India is clear: terrorism will not be tolerated, and national security remains above political divides.
