Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor Sector of Jammu and Kashmir, as Pakistan initiated heavy shelling in the Poonch and Rajouri districts, just days after India launched Operation Sindoor, a high-intensity counter-terror operation targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

According to local sources, mortar fire and small arms were heard across civilian zones late last night, prompting immediate evacuation of vulnerable residents.

A local resident said,

“We will not leave the place and support the Indian Army. The ceasefire may be breached today as well... The operation is a befitting reply... We have sent the females and kids from here, but the males will stay here...”

Ceasefire Violations Loom

The latest shelling raises concerns of a potential ceasefire violation, as border villages brace for more aggression. Security forces have been put on high alert and civilian bunkers are being activated across the LoC belt.

Background: Operation Sindoor

India’s Operation Sindoor, which neutralized nine terror hideouts in PoK, was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation saw a joint effort from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, delivering a decisive blow to terror infrastructure supported from across the border.

As the situation develops, civilian resilience and military preparedness remain firm amid fears of escalation.
