Prime Minister Narendra Modi held online talks with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Juan Fuchs on Monday amid continuing tensions with China. During this time they discussed focusing on a broad strategic partnership between the two countries. During the virtual conference, Prime Minister Modi said that Vietnam is an important pillar of India’s Act easi policy and is a strong partner in our Indo-Pacific region plans.
Modi said, next year both of us will be members of United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Therefore, the importance of our cooperation in the global scenario will increase further. We will implement a Joint Vision Document 2021-23 as an action plan for bilateral engagement. He said, we have signed seven new agreements. This includes scientific research, nuclear and renewable energy, petrochemicals, defense and cancer treatment.
Modi said, “Peace, stability and prosperity are our common objectives in the Indo-Pacific region. Our cooperation can contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region. ”During the conference, a joint vision document between India and Vietnam and an action plan for bilateral partnership from 2021 to 2023 were also released. Modi said, “This joint vision for peace, prosperity and the people will send a strong message to the world about the depth of our relationship.” Defense, scientific research, nuclear energy, petrochemicals, renewable between the two countries at the conference. Seven important agreements on energy and cancer treatment were also signed.
The Prime Minister said, “We are also taking new initiatives in the field of our development cooperation, and cultural conservation. All these reflect our growing mutual support and capability. He said that there is a convergence of many challenges on the global level, and more about the future of the region, and together we can pursue shared values. He said, “Next year, both of us will be members of the United Nations Security Council together and so the importance of our cooperation on the global stage increases even more.”
India and Vietnam expanded their bilateral relations to overall strategic partnership in 2016, and defense cooperation remained one of the most important pillars in these rapidly growing bilateral relations.
Significantly, this year in 2020, the two countries maintained high-level exchanges. The Vice-President of Vietnam, Ms. Dang Thi Ngok Thinh came to India on an official visit in February this year. The two Prime Ministers also held a telephone conversation on 13 April this year to discuss the situation arising out of the Corona epidemic.
