Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur stated on Tuesday that India would become the hub of drone technology and will need at least 1 lakh drone pilots by next year, highlighting the country's technological advancements.

Thakur said quoting PM Narendra Modi that "PM once remarked that 'India has a billion solutions to a million problems.' As a country of a billion plus people, India is increasingly leveraging technology to stay ahead of the curve."

Pesticides and nano fertilisers are increasingly applied to fields in remote areas using drones.
He claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has just received conditional exemption from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for the use of drones for live aerial filming of the India Cricket Season in 2021.

He mentioned that 100 Kisan Drones were despatched to villages all over the nation to spray pesticides as part of the "Kisan Drone Yatra," which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the Union Minister, the Modi government is attempting to boost demand for cutting-edge drone technology and services through a three-pronged strategy. Incentives in the form of PLI for Drones and Drone Components, effective policy in the form of the New Drone Rules, 2021, and the creation of indigenous demand, the latter of which has been entrusted to 12 Ministries of the Central Government, he said, are all necessary to move forward with this project.

The minister noted that there are presently more than 200 drone start-ups functioning in the nation, but he predicted that this number will rise to create thousands of new work possibilities for young people.

"Aligned to PM Modi's vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat,' I am confident that the growing innovation and cutting-edge drone technology ecosystem will ensure a self-reliant and self-sustainable New India in the Amrit Kaal," he added.
