Indian Coast Guard Executes Successful Medical Evacuation of Chinese National

The Ministry of Defence announced that on the night of August 16-17, the Indian Coast Guard executed a flawless medical evacuation operation aboard the research vessel MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2. The vessel, flying the Panama flag, was positioned around 200 kilometers off the coast of Mumbai in the Arabian Sea.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai was alerted to a medical emergency involving Yin Weigyang, a crew member on the research vessel. Yin Weigyang had suffered a cardiac episode and urgently needed medical intervention. The communication link was established with the vessel, which was en route from China to the United Arab Emirates, and vital telemedicine advice was promptly provided.

To ensure the quickest and most effective evacuation, the Indian Coast Guard made the strategic decision to airlift Yin Weigyang via an Advanced Light Helicopter MK-III. Swiftly and skillfully, the patient was hoisted aboard the helicopter and administered initial first aid. Subsequently, he was transferred to the vessel’s representative for further medical attention and care.

The Ministry emphasized that this swift and successful operation not only exemplified the Indian Coast Guard’s dedication to their motto “We Protect” but also resulted in the preservation of a precious life of a foreign national at sea. This remarkable achievement showcased the Coast Guard’s capabilities in executing complex rescue missions even under challenging circumstances.
