Indian Consulate in San Francisco set ablaze, US condemns vandalism

Khalistani supporters tried to burndown Indian Consulate in San Francisco.

Indian Consulate: As per a report by a local TV Channel Diya TV, radical Khalistani supporters set Indian Consulate in San Francisco on fire. The incident happened in the early morning between 1:30 and 2:30 am on Sunday, making this the second attack by Khalistani outfits on the diplomatic facility in last 5 months. The fire was quickly brought under control by San Francisco Fire Department and no reports of injuries have surfaced. A video of the incident was shared by the TV channel which it said was given to them by Khalistani outfit.

US State department reacts

The US State department has strongly condemned the attempted vandalism and arson.Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the US State Department tweeted “The U.S. strongly condemns the reported vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco on Saturday. Vandalism or violence against diplomatic facilities or foreign diplomats in the U.S. is a criminal offense.” 

Vandalism in March

In March this year, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco was attacked by Khalistani supporters. On the outer wall of the consulate building a huge graffiti of ‘Free Amritpal’ was sprayed on amidst chaos created by a large crowd of radicals. The protestors forced their way through security barriers and installed two Khalistani flags inside the consulate premises.

This attack had come hours after the attack on Indian High Commission in London when Indian flag was pulled down by the Khalistani supporters.
