Indian-origin man donates £25 million for UK’s 1st Jagannath Temple

The entrepreneur from Odisha, Biswanath Patnaik, said he feels blessed to have contributed GBP 25 million (about Rs 250 crore) to the construction of Britain’s first Jagannath temple.

“I am really blessed to be part of this historical journey. Lord Jagannatha has bestowed upon me his blessing, good intention and ability to get this completed after a long wait. I am committed to completing this project,” said Patnaik in an exclusive interview with India Today.

The building of the temple, which will be called Shree Jagannatha Mandir London, over a span of 15 acres of land, will get underway thanks to the donation given by the founder of the FinNest Group of enterprises. Patnaik’s contribution joined that of FinNest Managing Director Arun Kar, who is the project’s major donor and lives in the UK.

At the first Shree Jagannatha Convention, which took place in London on April 23, Biswanath Patnaik made the commitment in the presence of His Highness, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, the Maharaja of Puri.

Arun Kar made the announcement that Biswanath Patnaik has donated GBP 25 million to the building of the Jagannath Temple in London during this occasion.

The media and communication spokesperson, Chetan Shatapathy, “The idea and the goal is that the first phase of construction should be over by the end of 2024. This is going to be a massive project — an iconic, grand, majestic temple along the lines of Puri. The temple will have like we have in Puri, the Anand Bazar, the Anna Bhandhar, the Tulsi Vatica. We will be having a convention center, a dining hall, parking for thousands of people.”
