Indian Railways: The country's railway has announced 138 additional trains and 650 additional train trips to tackle Christmas and New Year rush across the country

Indian Railways: Indian Railways will run 138 additional trains and 650 additional train trips to tackle Christmas and New Year rush across the country.

The initiative is aimed to ease congestion while providing greater travel convenience for people heading to their favourite tourist destinations and hometowns.

The special train services by Indian Railways will be operated across nine railway zones. Western Railway (WR) will feature 26 special trains and 226 approved trips; Central Railway (CR) will operate 18 trains with 118 approved trips; South Central Railway (SCR) has planned 26 trains with 34 approved trips; South East Central Railway (SECR) will run 12 trains with 82 approved trips; Northern Railway (NR) has planned 18 trains with 66 approved trips.

North Eastern Railway (NER) has proposed two trains with six approved trips while Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has planned two trains with four approved trips.

In eastern and northern India, special trains are being operated on busy corridors connecting cities such as Delhi, Howrah and Lucknow. In the southern and central regions, special trains are being operated on Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mangaluru and other cities.

Special trains would also run on routes such as Mumbai to Nagpur and Pune to Sanganer, along with other routes in Maharashtra. On the Mumbai to Goa Konkan corridor, daily and weekly special trains are being operated between Mumbai CSMT or LTT and Karmali or Madgaon.

Indian Railways Achieves 99.2% Electrification

In another development, Indian Railways has announced 99.2 percent electrification of its broad gauge network. Presently, UK stands at 39 percent, Russia at 52 percent, Japan at 64 percent, and China at 82 percent.
