Amid the festive rush, Indian Railways has intensified its safety and crowd management measures to ensure a smooth and secure travel experience for millions of passengers across the country. With the surge in travel during the festive period, the railways have implemented several proactive initiatives, focusing on infrastructure improvements and enhanced passenger awareness campaigns.
New Holding Areas at Key Railway Stations
To handle the rising passenger traffic and reduce congestion on platforms, a permanent holding area has been established at New Delhi Railway Station. This facility is aimed at regulating crowd movement and preventing overcrowding during train arrivals and departures. Similar passenger holding zones have been introduced at Bandra Terminus, Surat, and Udhna stations, significantly improving station management and safety during peak hours.
Six Items Banned for Passenger Safety
Reinforcing its safety-first approach, the Ministry of Railways has released an advisory urging passengers not to carry hazardous or inflammable items while travelling by train. The ministry highlighted that such items pose a grave risk of fire or explosion, especially in crowded trains during the festive season.
The six items strictly prohibited on trains include:
- Firecrackers
- Kerosene oil
- Gas cylinders
- Stoves
- Matchboxes
- Cigarettes
The ministry has also appealed to passengers to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and follow onboard safety guidelines. Officials said that the cooperation of travellers is crucial in ensuring a safe and hassle-free journey for everyone during the festival period.
