While millions of Indians travel daily on popular trains like the Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Tejas, and even the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat, none of them hold the title of India’s fastest train. That distinction belongs to the Namo Bharat trains, which operate on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.
Namo Bharat: India’s Top-Speed Train
The Namo Bharat trains, designed with advanced technology and aerodynamics, clock a top speed of 160 km/h, making them the fastest in the country. In comparison, most premium express trains in India run at top speeds of around 130 km/h.
Currently, Namo Bharat trains cover a 55-km stretch between New Ashok Nagar (Delhi) and Meerut South (UP), significantly reducing travel time for daily commuters.
High Frequency, Modern Coaches
As of now, 30 Namo Bharat trainsets—each consisting of six coaches—operate along the route. These modern trainsets run every 15 minutes, ensuring smooth and frequent connectivity across urban and semi-urban belts.
The trains also offer two types of AC seating:
- Standard AC Coach: Approx. ₹150
- Premium AC Coach: ₹180–₹225
Route to Expand Soon
Once the full 82.15 km corridor becomes operational, the RRTS route will span 16 stations, stretching from Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Modipuram (UP). NCRTC estimates that after full commissioning, the Namo Bharat trains will cover this entire distance in under one hour, a major boost to regional mobility.
