International Survey states that Swachh Bharat Mission brings annual economic gains of $727 per household

Each family in rural India has benefited by Rs 53,000 from the central government’s ambitious scheme Swachh Bharat Mission. According to an international study, the cleanliness mission has led to a reduction in diarrhea, and the time spent in cleaning.

This research paper has been prepared by Goy Hutton, Nicholas Osbert, Sumit Patil and Avni Kumar. The title of which is- Comparison of the costs and benefits of the Clean India Mission. In which it has been found that each family got help of about $ 727. And in cases like diarrhea, 55 per cent, cleanliness improved by 45 per cent.

The co-survey was conducted between July 20 and August 11, 2017 among 10,051 families from 12 states. This includes Bihar, UP, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Assam etc., where 90 percent of open defecation is the case of the entire country.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission Scheme on 2 October 2014 to set India completely free from open defecation and set a target till 2 October 2019.

It also states that the poorest have received 2.6 times the financial return, while the society has received 5.7 times the cost.
