International Yoga Day: Indian Army Forms ‘Bharatmala’ Along Border Areas From Siachen to Kanyakumari

To celebrate International Yoga Day on Wednesday, the Indian Army organised a “Bharatmala” by practising yoga all throughout the country’s border regions, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The Bharatmala was formed from the easternmost point of Dong, where the Sun rises in India, to the sand dunes of Longewala in Rajasthan, the site of the famous battle fought there in 1971, from the glacial heights of Siachen to the southernmost point of Kanyakumari, as well as in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Army Forms Bharatmala From Siachen to Kanyakumari:

According to the Ministry of Defence, the event was actively attended by the military personnel, their families, including children, and defence civilians. At all places, the local population was aggressively recruited to participate in the yoga sessions.

The source from the defence ministry continued, “As part of the enhanced Indo-Africa partnership, outreach was also organised in African countries through Indian Army contingents deployed in United Nations (UN) Mission areas and in other Training Teams abroad.”

According to the ministry, yoga has become widely accepted due to its many different Avatars. Yoga has been deeply ingrained in Indian culture and ethos for centuries. The scientific community has also recognised the liberating and therapeutic benefits of yoga.

Regardless of where troops are deployed, the Indian Army has always been at the forefront of incorporating yoga procedures into its daily programme of operations. According to an Army spokesman, the Indian Army has been frequently interacting with the local population as part of the national push to raise awareness and promote yoga, especially in the isolated border regions.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day with full fervour and enthusiasm with the participation of 11 lakh NCC Cadets at different places around India, according to the defence officials.

The yoga classes were held all throughout the country, from Leh in the north to Kanyakumai in the south and Dwarka in the west to Tezu in the east, in parks, open spaces, schools, and colleges.

An enthusiastic gathering of cadets from all three services was presided over by Director General NCC Lt. Gen. Gurbirpal Singh, AVSM VSM, in Delhi Cantt. According to the NCC, he urged everyone to adopt a yoga lifestyle while highlighting the significance of the themes “Har Aangan Yoga” and “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”
