In a pointed yet diplomatic remark, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, currently in Colombia, expressed disappointment over the South American nation’s statement extending condolences for the deaths in Pakistan following Indian strikes on terror hideouts.

Is Colombia Siding With Handlers of Terrorism?

Speaking to the media, Tharoor said, “We are here looking for understanding... We have the impression that perhaps the situation was not fully understood when that one statement was made. Understanding is extremely important for us.”

India Had Earlier Carried Out A Strike Targetting Terror Hotbeds

India had earlier carried out a strike targeting terror hotbeds in Pakistan in response to a series of cross-border attacks. Colombia’s expression of sympathy for Pakistani casualties, without acknowledging the context of anti-terror action, has raised concerns in New Delhi.

Reaffirming India’s global stance, Tharoor added, “We are a country which has really been a force for constructive progress in the world. We certainly hope that other governments will tell those who give safe haven and protection to terrorists to stop doing so. That would be very helpful indeed, as well in the Security Council or outside it.”

While Colombia has not issued any clarification so far, Tharoor's statement signals India’s firm stand on global accountability in the fight against terrorism.

India has repeatedly urged the international community to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward nations that provide shelter and support to terrorist networks. “We certainly hope that other governments will tell those who give safe haven and protection to terrorists to stop doing so,” Tharoor emphasized. “That would be very helpful indeed — in the Security Council or outside it.”

The Congress leader’s remarks suggest a subtle yet clear call for greater geopolitical clarity and alignment when it comes to the global fight against terrorism. India views selective sympathy, especially in cases involving state-backed terrorism, as undermining global efforts to combat extremism.
