Islamic New Year 2023: In Islam, the month of Muharram 2023 marks the start of a new year. Like Ramzan, Muharram has always been revered as a very holy month. The Islamic calendar's current month is its first. Due to the Islamic calendar's lunar nature, the Islamic New Year's date is always shifting. Only after the moon has been sighted does the month of Muharram officially begin.
Muharram 2023 Date Set for July 20 in India
The first day of Muharram in India for this year is July 20. July 18, there was no moon in the sky. As a result, the Markji Chand Committee has stated that the date of Muharram has been set for July 20 due to the moon not being visible. In contrast, Youm-e-Ashura (known as Youm e Ashura in India) will be observed on Saturday, July 29. You can wish your loved ones a happy new year on this unique occasion of the Islamic calendar.
Practices of Shia and Sunni Muslims
The Mourning of Muharram is a sequence of memorial rites largely celebrated by Shia Muslims. It is also known as Azadari, Remembrance of Muharram, or Muharram Observances. In Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, there will be a celebration. Many of the ritual's activities take place at Hussainia or Imambargah, which are congregational gathering places. The occasion commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala, in which Yazid I ordered the martyrdom of Imam Hussain ibn Ali, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, by the armies of Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, in AD 680/AH 61.He was accompanied by family members and friends who were either killed or humiliated. Shia communal identity is defined by the commemoration of this tragedy during the annual mourning period, with the Day of Ashura serving as the main day. Muharram celebrations are held in nations with substantial populations of Shia Muslims.
