Israel Palestine Conflict: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed shock over the tragic loss of lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza due to an explosion. The hospital, run by the Anglican church in the Gaza Strip, witnessed a devastating explosion in which up to 500 people were believed to have lost their lives. Both the Hamas militant group, which controls Gaza, and Israeli authorities have accused each other of being responsible for the blast.

‘Those involved should be held responsible’: PM Modi on Gaza hospital attack

Modi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured. He emphasized that civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a matter of serious and continuing concern, and he called for those involved to be held responsible.

Calls for Accountability in West Asia Conflict

While the cause of the explosion remains a contentious issue, the incident highlights the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas. The conflict was triggered by Hamas’s assault on southern Israel on October 7, resulting in casualties on both sides. Modi had previously denounced the Hamas assault as “terrorist attacks” and expressed India’s solidarity with Israel. The external affairs ministry had also referred to the incident as a “terrorist attack” and underscored India’s support for direct negotiations to establish a sovereign state of Palestine alongside Israel.

The explosion at the Al Ahli Hospital occurred just ahead of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel, causing international outrage and protests in various countries. President Biden vowed to work with Israel to prevent civilian casualties, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged efforts in this regard.

The situation in the region remains highly volatile, with concerns about the possibility of an Israeli ground invasion. The ongoing violence has led to shortages of essential supplies in Gaza, adding to the complexity of the situation.
