ISRO to launch two deep space missions in 2023

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has planned the launch of Chandrayaan-3 in June next year, which is an important mission for future exploration on the lunar surface.

The space agency is also preparing for the first test flight of the ‘abort mission’ for the country’s first manned spacecraft ‘Gaganyaan’ early next year.

ISRO chief S. Somnath said, ‘Chandrayaan-3 (C-3) mission will be launched in June next year through launch vehicle Mark-3. He said that after the success of the abort mission and unmanned test flight, ISRO plans to send Indian astronauts to orbit by the end of 2024.

India’s first attempt to land the vehicle there failed after the lander ‘Vikram’ crashed on the lunar surface during the Chandrayaan-2 mission in September 2019. Somnath said, ‘C-3 is ready. It is not a replica of C-2. The engineering of this vehicle is completely different. We have made it very strong so that it does not face the same problems as last time.

He said, ‘Many changes have been made in this. In case of failure of any equipment, the same will be compensated by other equipment. He said that this rover is equipped with better software to calculate travel altitude and identify danger-free places.’

ISRO to conduct 6 test flights
Regarding ‘Gaganyaan’, Somnath said that ISRO will conduct six test flights before actually taking humans into orbit. He said preparations for the ‘Gaganyaan’ campaign are going on “slow and steady.”

Gaganyaan’s first non-crewed flight will be after two ‘abort missions’ to demonstrate that the space agency has the capability to rescue the crew in the event of an incident.
