ITR Filing Update: What govt says on extending deadline

ITR Filing Update: Many taxpayers have yet to file their income tax returns (ITRs) for FY 2021–22 as of July 31 in the vain hope that the government will extend the deadline in a manner similar to the previous two years. In order to make compliance easier for taxpayers coping with the covid epidemic over the past two fiscal years, the government extended the deadline for filing ITRs.

“Respected taxpayers, If you haven’t yet, don’t forget to file your ITR. ITR submissions for AY 2022–23 must be made by July 31st, 2022. Time is of the essence #FileNow. Pl visit: http://incometax.gov.in,” stated a tweet from the Income Tax Department’s Twitter account.

I-T regulations provide that individual taxpayers who do not need to have their accounts audited must file their ITRs by July 31 of the following fiscal year.

According to Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj on Friday, the government does not intend to extend the deadline for filing ITRs because it anticipates that the majority of returns would be submitted by the deadline on July 31. According to PTI, he stated, “So far, there is no consideration of extending the last date of filing.”

While the tax portal’s technical difficulties were another factor leading some people to believe that the deadline would be postponed. This ITR Filling update can be considered as the biggest update because the authorities claim that the majority of the issues have been fixed, customers are still having trouble filing their tax forms.

The tax filing portal https://eportal.incometax.gov.in is allegedly “not working properly,” “not opening,” has a “OTP issue,” and “takes time, continuously loads before failing,” according to users.
