Kamal Nath’s presence at Sikh event in Indore angers hymn singer

Kamal Nath: Congress leader Kamal Nath’s presence at a Sikh event in Indore has resulted in a major row. Kamal Nath is an accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi. Singer Manpreet Singh Kanpuri slammed the organisers for inviting the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh to the event.

Sirsa tweets

In a tweet, BJP Sikh leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “At an event, Kamal Nath, who is an accused of 1984 atrocities against the Sikhs was felicitated by a Sikh organisation — knowingly or unknowingly. Manpreet Singh Kanpuri condemned the incident and swore that he will never come to Indore. It shows what pain we are carrying in our hearts. But these criminals are roaming around freely and are even getting felicitated.”

Suspension demanded

“Bhai Manpreet Singh Kanpuri is a kirtan singer. But he was so pained that he had to express his feelings on the stage. I urge the Congress to suspend such members from the party and the Centre should complete the pending cases against Kamal Nath,” he added.

Giving a clarification, an organiser said Kamal Nath was not given kesari siropa (saffron rob) but only a memento as was the tradition. To this, the singer replied, “I will never come to Indore. Guru Nanak is watching.”
