Karnataka chief minister: Siddaramaiah is the frontrunner but DK Shivakumar is in no mood to relent

Karnataka chief minister: Suspense continues over who will be the new Karnataka chief minister even as the two contenders for the post DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah met the party’s top leadership in New Delhi on Tuesday. Sources said the party leadership failed to broker a power-sharing between the two leaders.

Many MLAs from DK Shivakumar’s camp are also backing Siddaramaiah, who is the frontrunner for the top post. Besides, sources also said he is not willing to let go of the finance ministry. The MLAs from the DK Shivakumar camp are keeping a neutral stand because Siddaramaiah campaigned for them as well during the polls, according to sources.

No compromise formula

On Tuesday, both DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah took turns to meet Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in his Rajaji Marg residence. However, neither of the two was in the mood for a compromise formula. DK Shivakumar dropped repeated hints of his stunts even before he landed in Delhi that he is not someone who will blackmail or backstab.

Meanwhile, Dr G Parameshwara, former deputy CM, who is also in the running, told reporters,, “If the Congress high command gives me the responsibility of the CM post, I will definitely fulfill it…They know everything about me and my work. I don’t want to lobby,” Parameshwara told reporters.

Congress to take time to announce CM

With end in sight to logjam, the Congress is likely to take time before announcing the new chief minister. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will soon visit Karnataka and meet party leaders and MLAs to take their opinion on the matter, sources said.

According to information, Rahul Gandhi met Kharge on Tuesday and conveyed to him that he and Sonia Gandhi would go by whatever decision he takes on the chief minister’s post.

Rahul reportedly told Kharge that the government should represent the mandate.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar played a significant role in the Congress’s emphatic win in the recently held Assembly election in Karnataka in which the party won 135 of the 224 assembly seats, and ousted the BJP from power.
