Karnataka Elections 2023: Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi’s influence on DK Shivakumar’s CM Dream

Karnataka Elections 2023: In a startling admission, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, recently acknowledged his acquiescence to the Congress high command. Speaking at a local event in Ramanagara, Shivakumar divulged that he had set aside his aspirations for the Chief Minister post due to counsel from top-tier Congress leaders.

The Tale of The Karnataka Elections

Post the Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10, 2023, where Congress emerged as the triumphant party, a suspense-filled four-day period followed. A nail-biting deadlock ensued in the party’s high command over the choice of Chief Minister between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. Even though extensive discussions were spearheaded by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the stalemate persisted due to a fierce power struggle between the two seasoned politicians.

Sonia and Rahul’s Role in the Power Play

It wasn’t until advice from top brass, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, was received that Shivakumar made the decision to step back. He articulated his respect for the high command’s choice, sharing, “Senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge advised me. I acquiesced to their wisdom.” He expressed his patience and his commitment to serving the interests of his supporters, promising, “I won’t let your hopes go in vain.”

Unveiling the Power-Sharing Deal

After the dust of the power struggle settled, the party made two intriguing offers to Shivakumar. The first proposition involved him maintaining his role as the head of the state party unit while also stepping into the shoes of the Deputy Chief Minister. The second deal was a power-sharing agreement wherein he and Siddaramaiah would split the five-year tenure as Chief Minister. Despite initial hesitation, Shivakumar agreed to the latter, stipulating he occupy the coveted role for the first half of the term.

In this high-stakes political drama, one thing is certain, the influence of the Gandhis remains steadfast in Indian politics. As the political landscape continues to shift and evolve, one wonders what the future holds for the likes of DK Shivakumar and his ambitions for the Chief Minister’s seat.
