Anand Singh, the tourism minister for Karnataka, is under fire for giving expensive Diwali gifts to newly elected members of his constituency.
One set of boxes was given to members of the municipal corporation, and the other set was given to members of the gram panchayats.

A silk saree, a dhoti, a dry fruit box, Rs. 1 lakh in cash, 144 gm of gold, and 1 kg of silver, and members of the municipal corporation received the gift box.
The members of the gram panchayat received all the other items but less money and no gold.
