Karnataka Rajya Sabha: BJP takes 3 seats, Congress gets 1 while JDS walk back free hand

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 3 seats in Karnataka Rajya Sabha while the Congress Party took one seat. But the shocking part is HD Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular), whose home base is Karnataka, did not win a single seat.

However, the maximum votes are counted in the second-preference voting, during which cross-voting by MLAs from other parties took the third BJP candidate past the finish line.

According to available inputs, Congress candidate Jairam Ramesh won from the fourth seat up for grabs from the southern state, while none from the Janata Dal (Secular) failed to make the cut.

“We were already winning two seats in Karnataka easily. But we got one more seat as a bonus. I’d like to thank everyone for this,” BJP spokesperson CT Ravi told reporters this evening.
