Karnataka Seer's Death Is Linked To Honeytrap ?

In the case of suicide of a Lingayat Mahant of Kanchugal Bandemath in Ramanagara, Karnataka, the police have talked about the angle of honeytrap. Police said Mahant is suspected to have been blackmailed by a honeytrap that allegedly forced him to commit suicide. Here on Monday (24 October), the head of the monastery located in Kempupura of Magadi taluk, Sri Basavlingeshwara Swami, was found hanging from the grill of the window of the shrine in the monastery premises.

Police have found suicide notes written by Lingayat Mahant in which he has accused some people of harassing and blackmailing him by maligning his image. Sources claimed that 45-year-old Lingayat saint Basavalingeshwara Swamy was trapped and often blackmailed after Muruga Mutt head Mahant Shivamurthy Muruga Sharanaru was arrested in a sexual assault case.

Police said that he was being blackmailed over an obscene video call with a woman.

Investigators told NDTV that, "two names in the suicide note are linked to the monastery."

According to a senior officer, in the suicide note, Sant wrote that, "An unknown woman has done this to me." An investigating officer said, "The woman and some others had threatened to release four obscene videos to the saint. We have the leads as to who these people are."

The police officer said, "We are probing from every possible angle. We are probing who the woman is." The Lingayat saint took over the presidency of the 400-year-old monastery at the age of 20 in 1997 and recently celebrated its silver jubilee. He was found hanging by the staff of the monastery at around 6 am on Monday.

A saint was found hanging in the same way in December

Earlier in December last year, the head of Chilume Math, also known as Basavalinga Swami, was found hanging in a similar fashion. Also two weeks ago, a case was also registered against Shivamurthy Sharanaru, a Lingayat mahant of Muruga Math in Chitradurga. He is currently in jail on rape charges. Four minor girls had alleged that they were sexually harassed by Shivamurthy Sharanaru for years.
