The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday approved giving government jobs to players who won medals in international tournaments.

The jobs will be from Class-A to Class-D depending on their educational qualification

“To encourage sportspersons who win medals in international sports, government jobs are there to take up. A committee will be formed, through which the players will be given jobs from Group-A to Group-C and Group-D.''

He said medal winners in Olympic or Paralympic and Commonwealth Games holding bachelor's degree would get jobs in Group-A category while medal winners in Asian with bachelor's degree would get Group-B posts.

Madhuswamy said that medal winners having less than graduation degree will get either Group-C or Group-D posts.

“We are not compromising on the educational qualification. We are giving age relaxation of 10 years,” explained the minister.

He said that the sportspersons who get Group-A job will get the post of Assistant Commissioner while Group-B post will be equivalent to Tehsildar.

Madhuswamy said the cabinet gave administrative approval to the revised estimated cost of the Yattinahole drinking water scheme at Rs 23,251.66 crore, adding that when the scheme was launched, its estimated cost was Rs 12,000 crore. As time passed, it has now increased to Rs 23,251.66 crore.

“The increase in the cost of land acquisition and construction material has led to an increase in the cost,” the minister said.

The government also decided to give 20 sheep and one ram to 20,000 shepherds across the state under the Rs 354.5-crore 'Amrit Swabhimani Kuri (Sheep) Scheme'.

Madhuswamy said that administrative approval was also given today to purchase 921 electric buses for Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) with financial assistance from the Center under FAME 2 scheme of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL).

He said that the Center gives Rs 39.08 lakh for each bus. The cabinet also approved keeping a reserve of Rs 100 crore to meet the cost difference.

Madhuswamy said that the cabinet has given its approval to the Karnataka Vidyut Nigam Limited to avail loan up to Rs 3,000 crore for the year 2022-23 from banks or any financial institution.

Besides this, it also decided to provide a grant of Rs 8,064 crore and make adjustments to improve the financial health of power supply companies and reduce their losses, the minister said.

“We could not provide them (ESCOMs) adequate funds since 2002 till now. Due to which his arrears increased. So, we decided to reduce it. 15,219 crore was outstanding as on March 31, 2022. To enable ESCOMs to raise further funds, we are giving government guarantees to borrowers,” he said.

The cabinet approved public-private partnership for an investment of Rs 4,000 crore in 1,000 MW grid-based pumped hydro storage power scheme through Power Company of Karnataka Limited.

Solar and wind power will be harnessed under the plan and water will be stored. The water would be lifted and circulated on turbines to generate hydro-electric power. The objective is to meet the power requirement, the minister explained.

"For this scheme, we are inviting tenders worth Rs 4,000 crore," Madhuswamy said.

The minister said that the capacity of Channagiri Taluk Hospital in Davanagere district would be increased from 100 beds to 250 beds, for which Rs 26.5 crore would be spent.

Madhuswamy told reporters that the cabinet approved Bengaluru North University to construct administrative and academic blocks on its campus using its own funds of Rs 88 crore at Amaravathi village in Jangamkote Hobli of Shidalaghatta taluk.

He said that under the 'Amrit Mahotsav of Independence', the government has decided to release 42 eligible prisoners on January 26, 2023.
