Kerala: Body cut into 56 pieces, chilling details of human sacrifice revealed

Three accused in the Kerala murder case of two women allegedly with the intention of offering human sacrifice were produced in a court on Wednesday morning where they were remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The statements of accused Bhagwal Singh, his wife Laila and Mohammad Shafi were recorded yesterday only. The accused had allegedly sacrificed women to overcome their financial constraints and attain prosperity. Police say that the killers had cut a woman into 56 pieces and also ate her. Police say that after the murder, the accused also ate the flesh of the woman’s body.

The state police had sought 10-day custody of the accused for detailed interrogation. However, the Ernakulam District Sessions Court has sent the three accused to judicial custody till October 26.

According to media reports, advocate BA Alur, who is known to represent the accused in several sensational cases, appeared in the court on behalf of the accused. Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer R. Nishanthini had said on Tuesday night that prima facie the crime appears to have been committed to overcome financial constraints and attain prosperity.

The officer had led the operation to retrieve the bodies of the women from the couple’s house at Elanthur in Pathanamthitta.


The bodies of the slain women (Padma and Roslyn) were cut into several pieces and buried in the backyard of the house. As part of the rituals of black magic, blood was splattered on the walls and floors. Police said that these women used to earn their livelihood by selling lottery tickets on the streets.

The mutilated body parts of the deceased were retrieved from the backyard of the couple’s house in Elanthur village of Pathanamthitta on Tuesday. Police said the body parts of the victims were cut into pieces and buried at two places. Police said that the accused have confessed to their crime.

According to the police, the age of the women was between 50 and 55 years. One of them was a resident of Kadavanthara and the other was a resident of Kaldi located nearby. They were missing since September and June respectively this year. During the investigation, the police engaged in their search had got information about the incident allegedly being related to human sacrifice.
