Khokon Chandra Das: A mob attempted to stab and burn a Hindu trader on the night of December 31 in Mymensingh district.
What’s the Khokon Chandra Das Incident?
Khokan Chandra Das, who runs a medical pharmacy and a mobile banking business, was returning home at 9 pm to Tiloi from Keurbhanga area of Kaneshwar Union. Some miscreants stopped Khokan and started assaulting him severely.
Sharp weapons were used by miscreants to strike the Hindu trader many times. However, Khokan survived by jumping into a pond. This is when some locals turned to rescue Khokan. Later, he was admitted to a hospital in Shariatpur. The condition of Khokan is critical.
Seema Das, the wife of Khokan, said she fails to understand why her husband met such a brutal fate. Seema said they had no enemies in the area yet we were targeted. She also commented that her husband recognized one of the attackers and therefore they poured petrol on his face and head before setting him on fire.
Is this the first attack in Mymensingh?
In two weeks, this is the fourth such attack on minorities in Bangladesh. On December 30, a garment factory worker Bajendra Biswas was shot dead by Noman Mia. A 27-year-old man Dipu Chandra Das was beaten by mob to death. His body was later tied to a nearby tree and set ablaze.
Amrit Mandal alias Samrat became the victim of a mob attack on December 24 on extortion charges in the Husaindanga area of Kalimohar Union.
