Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday held a meeting with ASEAN, a grouping of 10 nations, and some of its partners. Due to Corona, this meeting was done in a virtual way. In the meeting, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that terrorism and extremism are serious threats to peace and security in the world and a collective approach is needed to deal with these challenges.

In a virtual address at the 'ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting-Plus' (ADMM-Plus), Singh called for strict action against those promoting, supporting and funding terrorism and harboring terrorists without directly mentioning Pakistan.

ADMM-Plus is a forum of 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries and its eight negotiating partners India, China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States. On the Indo-Pacific, Singh called for a free, open and inclusive region based on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries, peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and compliance with international rules and laws.

Singh said, “India has strengthened cooperative partnership in the Indo-Pacific based on changing attitudes and values ​​to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Based on the centrality of ASEAN, India supports the use of ASEAN-led mechanisms as an important platform for the implementation of our shared vision for the Indo-Pacific."
