KV Subramanian turns down paper as Chief Economic Adviser, to return to academia

Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) K V Subramanian on Friday said he will be returning to academia after completion of his three-year term in the finance ministry. The government appointed Subramanian, a ISB Hyderabad professor, as the CEA in December 2018. He had succeeded Arvind Subramanaian.

"I have decided to return back to academia following the completion of my 3-year fulfilling tenure," he said.

"I have decided to return back to academia following the completion of my 3-year fulfilling tenure as the Chief Economic Advsier, Government of India. To get an opportunity to serve one's nation is an absolute privilege! Each day that I have walked into North Block, I have reminded myself of this privilege while endeavouring my best to do justice to the responsibility that comes with the privilege. Being provided the opportunity to contribute during a period of tremendous uncertainty and epochal change has been the lucky icing on the cake. So, while being conscious of the enormous privilege bestowed on me, I will happily return back to serving the country as a researcher after fulfilling my three-year commitment."

"Its been a delight to work with @SubramanianKri His academic brilliance, unique perspectives on key economic as well as policy matters and reformist zeal are noteworthy. Wishing him the very best for his coming endeavours," the Prime Minister said.
