Lakhimapur Kheri Case: 5,000-Page Chargesheet Against Minister’s Son, Others

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday, January 3, submitted a 5,000-page charge sheet in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The police named Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra Teni’s son Ashish Misra as the prime accused in the case.

Eight people were killed on October 3 after violence erupted during a farmers’ protest, claiming the lives of farmers and BJP workers ahead of a visit to Lakhimpur by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Thousands of pages of the chargesheet were brought to the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Lakhimpur town in a big trunk secured by two locks earlier this morning by the police.

“Yes, the chargesheet has been filed,” senior prosecution officer SP Yadav told reporters in Lakhimpur.

So far 14 accused, including Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra Monu, have been sent to jail. While Ashish Mishra was arrested on October 10, Lavkush and Ashish Pandey, close aides of Ashish Mishra, were arrested on October 7. Both were sent to judicial custody on October 8 last year.
