Lok Sabha Approves Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, Rahul Gandhi Returns Ahead of Debate

Data Protection Bill: The Lok Sabha has approved the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023. The law proposes a fine of up to Rs 250 crore on corporations for exploiting or failing to protect individuals’ digital data, with the goal of protecting the privacy of Indian citizens.

Congress MP Denounces BJP’s Approach to Delhi Service Bill

“BJP’s approach is to control by hook or crook…this bill is completely unconstitutional, it is fundamentally anti-democratic, and it is a front-term assault on the regional voice and aspirations of the people of Delhi. It violates all principles of federalism, all norms of civil service accountability and all models of assembly-based democracy,” said Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the Delhi Service Bill, in Rajya Sabha. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, is introduced in the Rajya Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to rumours, the Upper House would have six hours to consider the bill.

BJP Parliamentary Party Gathers for No-Trust Motion

Tomorrow at 9.30 am, the BJP Parliamentary Party will gather before the significant no-trust motion test. Hours after the Lok Sabha secretariat approved Rahul Gandhi’s return as an MP in the Lower House on Monday, he arrived in Parliament. Prior to entering the proceedings of the Lok Sabha, which were set to begin at noon, he paid respects at the Gandhi statue. The Supreme Court had last week put a hold on his conviction for criminal defamation. Rahul is expected to speak during tomorrow’s Lok Sabha debate on the no-confidence motion, according to the Congress.
