Lok Sabha Election 2024: BJP Releases Second List of Candidates for Lok Sabha Elections

Lok Sabha Election 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its second list of 72 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, following the Central Election Committee’s (CEC) meeting held in the national capital. This announcement comes after the release of the first list earlier this month, bringing the total count of BJP candidates to 267 ahead of the official schedule for the elections.

Among the notable candidates in the second list are former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat contesting from Haridwar, former Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar from Karnal, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal from Nagpur and Mumbai North respectively. Additionally, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has been fielded from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur, Pralhad Joshi from Dharwad, and Tejasvi Surya from Bangalore South, among others.

The selection process involved extensive deliberations

The selection process involved extensive deliberations, with senior party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda reviewing potential candidates before finalizing the list. However, some candidates faced controversies, such as Bhojpuri musician Pawan Singh who withdrew his nomination from Asansol, only to later announce his decision to contest the polls, and BJP leader Upendra Rawat who withdrew from Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki constituency due to a viral objectionable video purportedly featuring him.
