Lok Sabha Election 2024: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has voiced optimism about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral prospects in the southern states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Singh confidently asserted that the BJP is poised to ‘sweep’ in Karnataka and is likely to secure victories on some seats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Expresses Confidence in BJP’s Electoral Prospects in Southern States

Addressing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s skepticism regarding BJP’s success in southern states, Singh rebuffed the claims, citing the party’s previous electoral victories in Karnataka. He emphasized that the BJP had formed the government in Karnataka twice, indicating its strong foothold in the state. Furthermore, Singh pointed out the BJP’s alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh, where the coalition had been in power.

Singh expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects in Tamil Nadu

Singh expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects in Tamil Nadu, hinting at efforts to form a government in the state in the 2026 Assembly elections. Drawing from his recent visit to Tamil Nadu, Singh acknowledged dissatisfaction with the prevailing situation in the state and hinted at potential changes in the political landscape.

The Defence Minister’s remarks underscore the BJP’s strategic focus on expanding its political footprint in southern states, historically considered strongholds of regional parties. Singh’s confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects reflects the party’s concerted efforts to consolidate its presence across the country.

In a notable historical reference, Singh highlighted the BJP’s modest beginnings in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections, where the party secured only two seats. Interestingly, both seats were won in states outside its traditional base – Gujarat’s Mehsana and Andhra Pradesh’s Hanamkonda, showcasing the BJP’s gradual growth and nationwide appeal over the years.
