Maharashtra Civic Polls: Has The Opposition Already Lost The Battle? Mahayuti Sweeps 68 Seats Unopposed, Can Rahul and Thackeray Bounce Back?

Maharashtra Civic Polls: The BJP-Shiv Sena Shinde coalition has won 66 wards and Ajit Pawar's NCP has won 2 seats unopposed.

Maharashtra Civic Polls: The BJP-Shiv Sena Shinde coalition has won 66 wards and Ajit Pawar’s NCP bagged 2 even before a single vote has been cast in the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra.

What Happened At The Maharashtra Civic Polls?

January 2 was the last day for nomination form withdrawal. Many candidates of alliances and other parties did so, which paved the way for 68 leaders to win unopposed.

Uddhav Thackeray & Company Blamed Money And Threats

The ruling NDA government led by BJP was blasted by the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The opposition parties said BJP has used threats and money to get opposition parties to withdraw from the Maharashtra civic polls.

Raj Thackeray’s MNS staged a protest in Thane, questioning the nomination form withdrawal process.

The State Election Commission has now initiated an enquiry to ascertain whether nominations were withdrawn because of money or threats.

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) was the biggest surprise where 6 from Shiv Sena Shinde and 15 from the BJP won without any opposition.

Political experts believe that these unopposed wins for the Mahayuti would help them focus on campaigning in other areas that are yet to be secured and won.
