Maharashtra: Severe Setback For Uddhav As 3000 Shiv Sena Members Join Eknath Shinde’s Party

Maharashtra: Around 3000 Shiv Sena members from Mumbai’s Worli neighbourhood joined the Eknath Shinde group on Sunday, dealing Uddhav Thackeray a severe blow. The Thackeray faction just received permission from the Bombay High Court to hold the gathering for Dussehra ahead of this.
Given that Aaditya Thackeray represents Mumbai’s Worli district as an MLA, the Thackeray side is more disappointed by the party members’ decision.

What had happened?

When Eknath Shinde, a Shiv Sena MLA at the time, and 39 other dissident Shiv Sena MLAs left for Surat to oppose the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration, the Maharashtra government broke apart. They opposed the Shiv Sena joining forces with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

After several days of political unrest in the state, Uddhav Thackeray resigned as chief minister of Maharashtra, and Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis were elected to fill his position.

Which faction of the Shiv Sena is the “genuine”?

This has been a point of contention between the two groups ever since. Recently, a legal battle between the two groups over who will hold the party’s yearly Dussehra gathering has taken place in court.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received separate letters from the two factions requesting permission to hold the event. The Mumbai civic authorities, however, refused both factions permission, citing worries about peace and order.
The Bombay High Court permitted the Uddhav Thackeray group to stage a demonstration the day after the city authority rejected permission.
