Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday took a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over India’s recent Oscars win at the 95th Academy Awards held on Sunday. He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to not take credit for the glory of SS Rajamouli’s RRR’ and The ’Elephant Whisperers’ by Kartiki Gonsalves.
Deeming the feat as the ‘contribution of the country’, the Leader of Opposition said in the Rajya Sabha that the whether one film is a Telugu productions, while another s a Tamil short.
‘Ruling party should not take credit’
Kharge said that the BJP is reacting as if it has created the film where PM Modi is the director. He said that it is his request that BJP refrains from taking the credit.
“My request is that the ruling party should not take credit that we (the BJP) have directed, we (the BJP) have written the poem… or Modiji has directed this film. They should not say that… (it) is only my request. It is the contribution of the country,” Kharge said Parliament.
Kharge was making a reference to Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s remark in the Rajya Sabha ‘RRR’ scriptwriter -V Vijayendra Prasad – was nominated to Parliament by the Modi government. This statement was met with sharp criticism from the opposition.
PM Modi congratulates Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken to Twitter to congratulate RRR and The Elephant Whisperers for the incredible feat.
“Exceptional! The popularity of ‘Naatu Naatu’ is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire team for this prestigious honour. India is elated and proud. #Oscars (sic).”
In another tweet, the PM wrote, “Congratulations to @EarthSpectrum, @guneetm and the entire team of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ for this honour. Their work wonderfully highlights the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature. #Oscars (sic).”
