Mallikarjun Kharge takes charge as Congress president in presence of Sonia Gandhi

Mallikarjun Kharge: Newly elected Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Wednesday took the charge of the post at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi. The ceremony was attended by Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders. Kharge was handed over the certificate of election as the Congress president by the party’s central election authority chariman Madhusudan Mistry. While handing over the certificate, Mistry said that he hopes other parties will draw a lesson from the Congress and will hold polls in future to elect presidency.

Speaking at the representation ceremony, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi said Kharge will inspire the party as President. “I have full faith in Kharge ji will inspire the entire party, get a message. She added that the Congress will be strengthened under the leadership of the 80-year-old. “I am very happy, the most satisfaction is that the president whom you have chosen at your won discretion,” she said, adding that he is an experienced leader who has reached the height from an ordinary worker with his hard work and dedication.

Kharge, in his first speech as the Congress President thanked leaders for making a worker’s son, ordinary worker, a party president. Calling it an emotional moment, he went to list a number of sectors the country needs reform on. He was welcomed with loud cheers by the Congress leaders at the ceremony.

“In new India, hunger, pollution is increasing but Rupee is falling. Govt is sleeping but CBI, ED, and IT are working 24 hours. In new India, Godse is called a patriot & Mahatma Gandhi is an anti-national. They want to bring constitution of RSS,” he said.
