Mamta Banerjee urged PM Modi to cancel the JEE/NEET examination

The coronavirus numbers are surging in India and it is the biggest matter of concern as of now the increasing pace of coronavirus in the country, once again the rising the clouds of the crisis on the students. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is still on her stand of not conducting JEE/NEET examinations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Cheif has also requested the central government to delay the examination date for the betterment of the students and their future.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal tweeted, “In our last video conference with the Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, I had been vocal against the UGC guidelines mandating completion of terminal examinations in Universities/Colleges by the end of September 2020, which had a huge potential to put student lives at risk.”

She also appealed the Education Ministry of India to rethink on their decision to conduct the examination and make it happen after the situation gets normal.

“Now with the directive of @EduMinOfIndia to conduct NEET, JEE 2020 in Sep, I would again appeal to the Centre to assess the risk and postpone these examinations until the situation is conducive again. It is our duty to ensure a safe environment for all our students,” Mamta Banerjee twitted.

The veteran TMC leader also sent her letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for his intervention in this broad level university examination.

CM of West Bengal has been a vocal critic of the Centre’s policy of having exams for students in the pandemic.

Apart from Mamta Banerjee, political and social leaders from across the country including BJP MP Subramanian Swamy have expressed their apprehensions against the conduction of the exam in the current scenario. Many student organisations have objected to this as well.

On the other hand, some sections of society believe that this exam is necessary for the situation of the education system to improve in this pandemic. Every year more than a million students appear in these two examinations and many take year drops to qualify in these examinations.
