Manipur cabinet expansion: CM Biren Singh inducts 6 new ministers – know details

Six new ministers today joined the Biren Singh government with the expansion of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government's cabinet, just a month after it returned to power in Manipur. Manipur Governor La Ganesan administered the oath of office and secrecy to six new ministers, five from the BJP and one from its ally Naga People's Front (NPF).

The expansion raises the cabinet strength to 12 with the BJP having 10 ministers and NPF two. The cabinet expansion comes within a month of N Biren Singh taking charge as the state’s Chief Minister for the second consecutive time.

The new ministers include senior BJP leader Latpao Haokip, who was a minister in the previous BJP government, and Basanta Singh, son of former IPS officer and former Union minister Chaoba Singh. Apart from this, three youth leaders – Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Leishangthem Sushildro Singh,, and H. Dingo Singh – also became part of the new cabinet of Manipur. Khadim Vasum of NPF also took oath as minister.
Singh and five other ministers were sworn in on March 21, when the BJP recently formed its government once again by winning 32 seats in the 60-member assembly. Four BJP MLAs - Biswajit Singh, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam and Nemcha Kipgen - and NPF's Awangbou Numai were inducted into the cabinet.
