Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi urges people to get vaccinated, follow Covid protocols during festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ addressed the issue of vaccine hesitancy and said Prime Minister and underlibes that both he and his nonagenarian mother Heeraben Modi were fully vaccinated against the virus, urging people to trust science as avoiding inoculation can prove to be ‘dangerous’. Additionally, he also urged people to follow Covid-19 protocols during the festival season. “During festivals and gaiety, do remember that corona is not yet gone from amidst us. You don’t have to forget corona-related protocols,” he said.

Giving an example of himself and his mother, the Prime Minister pointed out that they both have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. “I have myself been vaccinated with both doses. And my mother is close to a hundred years of age… she too has taken both doses. At times, some people develop fever but it is very minor, just for a few hours. Not getting vaccinated can prove dangerous,” the Prime Minister said.

pointing out that it is crucial that vaccine hesitancy, which is based on rumours, must be addressed, he said India achieved the feat of inoculating million people in a single day. “During festivals and gaiety, do remember that corona is not yet gone from amidst us. You do not have to forget COVID-19 related protocols,” he said.

India has reported 39,742 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the active caseload of the country to 4,08,212 on Sunday. In the same time span, 39,972 recoveries and 535 deaths have also been reported.

In his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged the people to save water and make it a part of their lifestyle. PM Modi said we need to preserve water for our future generations.

He also remembered an event held in Georgia recently where the Foreing Minister S Jaishankar handed over the relics of Saint Queen Ketevan to the Georgian government. PM Modi said some very praiseworthy words were said for India during the event which was memorable.

PM Modi also lauded agricultural cultivation in north eastern states. “Nowadays, apple cultivation is gaining traction in Ukhrul, Manipur. Farmers here are now cultivating apples in orchards. These people also went to Himachal to take proper training. One of them is TS Ringphami Young. He is an aeronautical engineer by profession.”

“After Covid-19, the cultivation of ‘Ber’ is increasing. My one such young friend is 32 years old Bikramjeet Chakma from Unakoti, Tripura. He has earned a sizable profit after starting ‘ber’ cultivation & motivating people for its cultivation.”
